Section 6 - Fort Augustus to Allt na Criche
(0.8km, 0.5miles)
This short section is on public roads. From the canal swing-bridge, cycle North along the A82 past petrol station, toilets and car-park, then turn left up a side road sinposted Bunoich Brae, go past the turn to Jenkins Park and follow the road as it swings round to head East and meets the A82 at Inchnacardoch. Bear left and follow the A82 for just under a kilometer until you reach the Forestry Comission car park at Allt na Criche
Section 7 - Allt na Criche to Invermoriston
(11.3km, 7miles)
This section is graded "blue" on easy forest roads and a quiet tarmac minor road. From the old stone bridge near the car park at grid ref NH390 180, follow the forest track as it climbs to overlook Loch Ness. Take care as this is a working forest, observe any warning signs or diversions. Trees are not ususally felled during the growing season (when birds are nesting) so in spring and summer there is unlikely to be much disturbance. As the track passes above Invermoriston, the Great Glen Way footpath turns right to head down to the village but it is easier and more intersting to keep on the forest track for another kilometer until it meets the minor road at grid ref NH402 174, then turn right to head East into the village in 2km (1.2 miles). If you plan to stop in here, see our Invermoriston page.
