The Great Glen

Drumnadrochit to Inverness

Section 11 - Drumnadrochit to Inverness
(47km, 29miles)

This final section is graded "blue" and is almost all on minor public roads but there are no villages or shops. Start from the centre of Drumnadrochit where there are toilets, a tourist info centre and a post office/shop for any last-minute supplies for what will be a long ride. Follow the A82 north over the bridge and turn left outside the two Loch Ness Monster exhibition buildings. Follow the A831 for a couple of kilometers to the junction with the A833 where you must turn right signposted Beauly.

This steep road climbs for 3km up to a height of 250m before levelling out and then descending for a further 4km. Take a right turn signposted "Fox Hole" then after 2km turn right again towards Abriachan signposted "Drumnadrochit via Loch Ness". After 5km you reach a crossroads where you should turn left signposted "Blackfold". Follow this road for 11km right through Blackfold now following signs for Inverness the road emerges onto the A83 4.8km (3 miles) South West of inverness.

Turn left and ride carefully, it is along this main road that the previously published route enters the Highland Capital. When you cross the swing-bridge over the Caledonian Canal, turn immediately right and follow the road past the entrance to Bught park (public toilet) and onto a minor road that follows the shore of the river Ness past the Cathedral and Castle right into the town centre.
